Vendata, data from Venezuela at your disposal, is an association the purpose of which is to produce the largest accumulation of open data possible based on public information in Venezuela through compiling, processing and transforming closed data into an open format. Technological and IT tools are used to enable their enhanced management and the organization, promotion and generation of publishable products that contribute to the nation´s development by setting up diagnostics and actions for the prevention and diminishment of social evils, the reinforcement of education and citizen culture and the protection of human rights such as the right of access to public information.
During the project´s initial creation phase, a sample of the total documents was selected and the topics of public interest for systematic placement in databases were defined. Later on, a basic structure was established and a downloadable web form was drafted. User profiles were created for the collaborators and a procedures manual was handed out as well as a tutorial on how to download the information manually. Each and every data entered was checked and cleaned up. Some documents required the application of data extraction methods and techniques to obtain the information.
With the data obtained so far, browse engines were created for the official gazettes and national reports and accounts, as well as research available on that web portal in alliance with more than eight media and civil society organizations.
The technology used to create the downloading formulaire and web browser were PHP and SQL with Java and JQuery complements.
